Pattern Alteration

Making skinny jeans for Obitsu11 and Nendoroids

One of my current project is a tribute to Touken Musical #6 Shouki Hongi.  I have only seen clips, but it includes 5 of my favored swords.  And it looks like the 6th may win a place in my heart soon.

I love their Part2: Idol looks, and have made it a personal goal to make these outfits. I have gone as far as starting to make custom heads for those that have not manifested as nendoroids yet.  (Baby Gou is done, Tonbogiri is in the works).  So the outfit work has started with Tsurumaru and beloved Sengo!!!

Their tops seem like variations on t-shirts and Kimonos.  But baggy pants just won't do - which is the common result I get, even with the fitted jeans pattern.  Don’t get me wrong, slightly baggy pants look cute for a casual look, but these idol outfits seem to be all about the curves, the curves…

Possible solutions would be to modify an existing pattern to get tighter (better result).

Attempt #1: Narrowing the leg of the Fitted Jeans pattern

Using the Obitsu11 pattern for the Fitted pants, I decided to bring the cuff in by ¼ inch on each side. This left 1/2 + inch of leg on front and back.

Then redrew the leg so that it was a smooth line up to just below the crotch.  This is now my new pattern piece.

The pattern has the front and back of the legs identical, so it was a matter of cutting 4 of these and the 2 pieces for the waist band. (this I did not alter, but used the smaller template for sizing once waist band pieces were sewn together.)

Followed the pattern directions for assembly, and since this was mostly straight or slightly curved seams, the sewing machine with a small stitch length (1.8) setting works well. (I hand sew where the clothes would need easing (collars and fitted sleeves).

And the result….

They fit, though not over an attached foot.  Trimmed them so that they were the correct length, since the legs will be tucked into the boots, and didn't feel like a turned hem as necessary.  Fray stop applied just to keep the edge neat.

Trimmed them and finished with a snap.

Success on the 1st attempt.

Note: My second route was going to be altering the pattern for tights, which I may still do as an option to make the boots and pants actually 1 piece since Sengo has these crazy laced up boots!
