Reblogging: More about Scale

Tiny quilts still have 1/4 inch seam allowances, as do tiny shirts and tiny pants.

And the start of a  crafting blog for dolls between 4 to 6 inches.  Nendoroid, Obitsu11, Blythe just to name a few.  I like exploring all types of crafts, but the majority of the blog will focus on sewn items, with occasional side adventures into furniture making, knitted goods and  even customizing faces and hair.  I've done a little of all of this and plan to do more, and share it too.

Why a blog - because there are a growing number of doll collectors looking for clothes for these very small darlings.  And if you are looking to make or modify clothes and patterns for this size doll, there are a lot of things to take into consideration.

First off, you are still trying to sew 1/4 inch seam allowances and you may only have 1/2 inch of fabric to work with.  So if your new to sewing or to sewing so small  - I suggest foregoing the sewing machine initial and start with a good, old school back stitch.  This trusty stitch, gives you the security of a machine sewn stitch, while hand sewing gives you much more control of the fabric.  And it is a great skill to possess for other everyday uses too.

So that is where I'll start the tutorial portion - with the backstitch - before moving on to patterns and more.
